Ceramic Toys: Désirable Review

Sex

I have a literal mountain of sex toys. It comes with the job. I’m also super picky about the types of toys that I actually use. Most of the toys I receive are pretty much the same: plastic, motorized, purple vibrators. I end up giving away most of them since I find they don’t always align with my body shape. And while I can appreciate a toy with all the bells and whistles, the toy I received from Désirables was the exact opposite!

I enjoy texture more than vibration in my toys. I can really get behind a stone, metal, glass, or wood dildo, but I’d NEVER heard of porcelain toys before. When the lovely ladies originally described their product, I couldn’t quite imagine the texture in my head, but I was really interested in trying it. It arrived in this really slick package (as a former packaging designer I’m a slut for a good box). The product is called  “Dalia,” and they refer to it as a “porcelain explorer” rather than a toy! It was super beautiful, all white, minimalist, and smooth. It was way lighter than I expected… but it also felt confusingly chalky. Honey Bunch’s first reaction was, “are you sure you like this?” Not gonna lie, I felt pretty skeptical.

There was a cute booklet that came in the box. It was super detailed, with suggestions for how to use Dalia, tips on temperature play (my favorite!), as well as great information on intimacy tools, plus G-spot and Kegel exercises. I learned that you could use both ends: the elongated one for exploring your G-spot, and the rounded end for strengthening your pelvic floor muscles. It’s a great informational pamphlet that I really appreciated. Toys often just come with an operator’s manual describing charging and buttons, but it was super cool to see how much care and education they packed into this. I imagine for first-time toy users this would be super helpful information to have! I also took a peak at their blog and they have really good articles on sexual wellness, which I expect from adult companies I’m shopping from at this point, but was still really nice to see! I definitely recommend checking out that resource too.

Back to the texture issue: I asked Honey Bunch to wash it before we tried it, and she brought it back wet from the sink. It suddenly felt AMAZING! It was smooth and slippery rather than chalky, which makes a lot of sense. My takeaway was that this toy was particularly important to use with lube. We used the elongated end and I have to say I really liked the way it fit. It wasn’t too big for me and gave a really satisfying sense of fullness because of the curves. I personally found that I enjoyed circular motions with it once it was inserted. But it’s a really versatile toy and I tried using it a number of ways including for shallow penetration and to rub on my clit. All fun, but we definitely used more lube as we went along.

The next day, I was sitting in my office and looking through the aforementioned booklet and decided to try the Kegel exercises they suggested. I put the rounded end in, making sure to use lube, and then realized that I enjoyed it more when it was entirely wet the night before. I started soaking it in different water temperatures before using it. But anyways, the Kegel exercises they mentioned included contracting muscles after inserting the end in a 10-second interval, squeezing and releasing as quickly as possible, and holding on as long as possible. I struggled a lot with the first part and my vag was pooped by the end. Which confirmed that I need to be using Dalia more frequently.

I also learned a lot about the company before agreeing to do a review for them. Turns out Désirables is super fucking cool and has the sweetest owners. Yes yes yes! They make toys out of porcelain because it’s totally body safe, in both the material and production process. Unlike plastic toys which can contain all sorts of crazy shit, porcelain is really strong (even if it looks fragile!), durable, and can be boiled for the easiest sterilization! Y’all know I’m a fan of reusing and gifting old toys, so being able to boil them or put them in the oven is a great plus! These chicks really care about the quality of their products. They also have great information on their commitment to environmental issues, sex positivity, and body safety. I can get behind all of that, plus I like that they make all their toys in Montreal.

Overall, this is a toy that’s grown on me. From the moment I saw the pictures I really really liked how pretty Dalias are. In fact, it’s so pretty, it gets to stay out on the bedside table even if Honey Bunch’s client can see it over Zoom. I like the weight, and the texture when soaked has become one of the most appealing aspects of it. Plus learning more about the company made me grow a special affinity for this porcelain explorer.
